The song is pretty explicitly about taking a leap into the unknown. Writing and producing this new album has been at times an uncomfortable process for me, exploring a lot of new terrain, collaborating in new ways, and really honing in on a sound to make a coherent statement across the whole album.
I got the kernel for WOTEWM after listening to a Bowie song late one night, Lady Grinning Soul, last track on the Aladdin Sane record. It has this magical, other worldly quality that transfixed me. Cos I was listening on vinyl, after the end it kept skipping and repeating the same section of crackle forever as I drifted off. The phrase ‘walk off the edge with me’ started running around my head - like an invitation to step into that world. During writing and production ‘Summer Bummer‘ by Llana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky was playing like everywhere. I needed an atmospheric, moody but chill change for the middle 8 so I ripped that downtempo style beat and combined it with a soaring strings solo to take the song to another place.
