This song is about the power of daydreaming. I feel like it’s a really important part of our lives that’s going extinct in the age of the ‘infinite feed’. It’s about being impervious to external distractions. Nothing’s gonna change my world. My best attempt at Across The Universe. I really wanted the production to have weight to it. As in it’s a type of dreaming that’s not just idle, fanciful, but fundamental and profound. As will be a recurrent theme on the record, there’s the contrast of the close and intimate with the vast and infinite. For the outro piano part I wanted to create a musical equivalent of a Shepherd Tone - an audio illusion seeming to infinitely rise or fall in pitch. I remember it took me hours and hours getting the fades right for a piano scale that seems to infinitely descend. Like the delving deeper and deeper into the subconscious. Definite production inspiration from Perfume Genius on this also.
